We are based in the former Methodist Chapel by the crossroads in Broughton Moor, near Maryport in Cumbria.
Cuddly Koalas Preschool was established in 1997 from the former Broughton Moor Preschool Playgroup, which opened in 1990.
Sessions are currently daily from 9.00 to 12.00 pm and from 12.30 to 3.30pm and are charged at £12.00, (with lunch hour at £3). Children are also welcome to bring a packed lunch and stay over the lunch hour, staying from 9 to 3.30 if you choose.
We are registered for Free Entitlement (Formerly called Nursery Grant) for children from the ‘term’ (specified by the Local Education Authority) following their third birthday. We are also registered for free entitlement sessions for two year old's, whose parents meet the County Criteria for entitlement. (See 2 year old places tab above) This gives up to 6 sessions a week free of charge.
We can also offer 30 hours free entitlement to those who qualify please visit the GOV.CO.UK site to find out more.
We are also signed up to the Early Years Voucher Scheme through the workplace, helping to make child care costs easier.
The Preschool is open to children from two years of age. You are welcome to stay for the first few sessions if you feel it would be beneficial to your child, although many parents find that it is best to leave the children to settle on their own. Children are only toileted by staff who have been cleared by the Disclosure and Barring Service, parent helpers cannot do this. Children are welcome from villages and towns other than Broughton Moor.
The Manager is Bryony Nicholls who holds an Open University Certificate in Early Years Practice and an N.N.E.B Diploma. Yvonne Jackson holds an NVQ3 in Early Years Care and Education, Stephanie Hall holds level 3 BTEC National Diploma. All staff update Child Safeguarding and First Aid training regularly and also do additional CPD training throughout the year.
Our latest Ofsted inspection in 2017 graded us as ‘Good’ in all areas. We have taken part in Early Excellence training project to help us develop all areas to the best of our ability.
We operate a Key Person system; this means that children have a special person in the group who is responsible for planning for their next steps in learning and assisting the Manager with their assessments and report-writing. Parents are also welcome to arrange a "Stay and Chat" with their Key Person to discuss and plan their child's next steps in learning and look at their child's Learning File.
To register for a place for your child, please download a form from this site or call in for a copy. We ask for a £20 Registration fee which covers our administration costs and also provides you with a sweatshirt, polo shirt and book bag for your child. You are welcome to call by and see the group 'in action' with your child, but please make an appointment to do this as it may not be convenient - we may have other visitors at the same time so will not be in a position to give you the time we would like to.
